Chikankari originated from Persia under the Mughal rulers and introduced to the ancient city of Lucknow in the 16th century. It is a traditional hand embroidery characterized by delicate and intricate threadwork in white where the motifs are inspired by elements from nature. Here, we have used a base fabric of crisp 100’s poplin outlined with floral designs that are then embroidered using backstitch and chain stitch techniques. Our chikankari has been made by skilled women artisans from Semal Handicrafts, in Lucknow.
