Phulkari, meaning ‘floral work,’ is an ancient craft deeply rooted in Punjab’s agricultural landscape. Its motifs go beyond flowers, drawing inspiration from grain plumes, cotton, acacia, mustard, and birds-reflecting the region’s vibrant life and culture.This piece is embroidered by Manjit Kaur from Maloya village, who leads Ruhan, a self-help group of 40 women. She reimagines traditional Phulkari motifs as custom placement embroidery on our hand-spun, handwoven khadi cotton fabric from Udyog Bharti, a collective supporting sustainable textile production.
