The Gond are one of the largest tribal communities in India, with a tradition of painting in lines and dots that often carry stories of the forest. These works have been painted by Mahesh Shyam, a 30-year-old artist from Bhopal, who learned the fables of animals and nomadic life through his grandparents’ stories. Though he has not lived the forest as closely as they did, those tales shaped his imagination and continue to guide his hand, so that each painting carries the rhythm of Gond tradition along with his own voice.
