In early 2025, we met Sohrai artist Manik Chand Mahto from Jorakath, Jharkhand, at Dastkar, a craft community event in New Delhi. Sohrai is a traditional mural art form practiced by tribal communities in Jharkhand, named after the winter harvest festival that celebrates fertility, nature, and life. This piece features his hand-painted motifs—depictions of animals, plants, and everyday life—rooted in the Sohrai tradition. The artwork is hand-painted on our hand-spun and handwoven khadi cotton from Udyog Bharti.
