Machi tanka is a joining stitch long practiced by the Rabari community of Gujarat, used to link panels together in visible, deliberate lines. We draw from this tradition in the work of seasoned embroidery artisan Hasmat Ali, who practices his craft from a space tucked just behind our studio. Each join is guided by hand on a sewing machine, creating a line that lifts gently from the cloth. With silk panels composed in varying shades, the garment is finished by machi tanka tracing their seams in a continuous path.
